Happy Presidents’ Day
It’s Presidents’ Day on Monday here in the City of Roseville and around the country! When I went to school, I thoroughly enjoyed TWO days off every February to celebrate President Lincoln’s birthday and President Washington’s birthday. Later, they changed it to one day a month in February when they rearranged a variety of holidays to give more 3 day holidays to workers. Years later, the holiday calendar was rearranged again to add more days to commemorate other special people/celebrations but happily the Presidents, for the most part, got to keep their one day in February.
I recently discovered, to my shock, that some companies (often the ones that take week long furloughs in the summer and/or winter) have removed this special day as a day off.ย All that is to say, on Monday you may be off or you may be working, some businesses may be closed and others open. ๐ I know – and I agree – it’s getting a bit confusing. ๐๐บ๐ธ And for inquiring minds, most of the City of Roseville offices will be closed for President’s Day.
For that matter, so will Citrus Heights City Hall be closed, Placer County offices, California state offices, Rocklin City offices,ย Lincoln City Offices,ย Federal government offices, and – per Bankrate.com, “amost banks will be closed.”
One county happily shocked me – Mega Kudos to Sacramento County as they still celebrate both Lincoln’s and Washington’s Birthdays (both are on Mondays though so they still get the 3 day holiday)! ๐๐บ๐ธ
Whatever you will be doing on Monday, whether in the City of Roseville, the surrounding area, or beyond, have a lovely day. And many thanks to two awesome presidents – George Washington and Abraham Lincoln – for the great start they gave our country and the great examples they have set for us!
Business Changes in the City Of Roseville Area
Sadly, Pottery Barn Kids, and GapKids have closed at Westfield Galleria at Roseville. Two new stores coming include Alo Yoga (which I mentioned in a previous newsletter) and Brilliant Earth which is a jewelry store.
Asian fusion restaurant KoJa Kitchen won’t reopen its Rocklin location. It had closed temporarily back in August 2022 but now it is announcing the closure will be permanent. At this point in time, their other 12 locations expect to stay open.
Per the Sacramento Business Journal, Roseville’s Highland Village is getting an interesting new restaurant. Boston’s Pizza Restaurant & Sports Bar which features “a seasonal menu, appetizers, wings, salads, bowls, burgers, sandwiches, pastas and other entrees, and a variety of pizzas and desserts” plans to build their new restaurant very close to my Keller Williams Realty office at 246 Gibson, though it is actually even closer to the Lazy Dog restaurant. They already have one of their franchise restaurants at 5511 Sunrise Blvd. in Citrus Heights.
JOBS INFO – Paid AND Volunteer
Sad news for many!ย According to Fierce Health Care, Adventist Health announced Wednesday that they will be laying off about 59 employees from their Roseville, CA headquarters, starting in February and continuing to April. And that’s not the only company doing layoffs in our area, I’m afraid.
Happy news though! I have seen many jobs being offered recently – including
- Roseville Fire Department
- Placer County Sheriff’s Office
- Many if not all the cities in our area, including Sacramento, are hiring – click here for the links I shared a while back.
- San Juan School District has jobs available
And for those looking for volunteer work, Seniors First is looking for volunteers to deliver Meals on Wheels to Senior adults – “You can make a big difference by delivering meals to seniors in YOUR community throughout Placer County. Got a couple hours? A shift consists of about two hours from start to finish.” Contact them at volunteer@seniorsfirst.org or call them at (530) 492-5409.
