Looking Ahead to Independence Day

My family is already looking forward to 4th of July fun including fireworks. And I was very happy to read that the City of Roseville passed an updated illegal fireworks ordinance at the May 1 City Council meeting. The ordinance includes increased fines for illegal fireworks offenses, with fines of $750 for the first offense and $1,000 for subsequent offenses. Additionally, the ordinance removes the previous cap on violations, allowing them to be cited as misdemeanors. A new provision holds property owners accountable if they knowingly allow illegal fireworks on their property. The city plans to educate the public about the new regulations and promote safe and legal fireworks usage.  And, per ABC10, “Law enforcement and emergency responders could also charge the person for the actual costs of responding to a call for illegal fireworks, which could range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. This charge would be on top of the fine.” If you’d like to know more about this, I found the City Council discussion and vote on this on YouTube. If it works correctly, it should start right at the beginning of where they look at this (item 7).
