The Sacramento Airport Has Been Approved To Start Work on a New Parking Garage!

Woohoo!!!!!  The Sacramento International Airport is set to undergo a significant expansion with the recent approval of a $229 million contract for a new parking garage. The Sacramento County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the contract for Otto Construction to build the new Terminal B Parking Garage, which will be located on the west side of Terminal B. This project will replace the existing Hourly B Parking Lot and is expected to increase parking capacity at the airport by approximately 4,500 spaces, bringing the total to about 5,500 spaces. This development is part of the airport’s $1.3 billion “SMForward” expansion plan aimed at accommodating growing passenger numbers over the next seven years. It is scheduled to begin in October and finish by May 2026. This garage is just one of seven renovation projects included in the SMForward plan.

Great news although I wish it would be faster than it will be. I love the airport and especially Southwest – my very favorite airline, which is in Terminal B. But if I am flying after the first flights are gone, I have to allow an extra hour just to find parking spaces! That makes a long day even longer and is definitely NOT one of the fun and intriguing things to do in Roseville CA / Sacramento area! 😱 It’s worth it though, since I’m almost always flying to see sweet kids and grandkids! 😊 So this is definitely a necessity and I’m looking forward to the new upgrades being completed at our much appreciated Sacramento International Airport! Here’s a video from KCRA with even more info and a map.

More Starbucks May Be Coming to Roseville, Citrus Heights, and More

According to the Sacramento Business Journal, “Starbucks has several new stores in the works around the area, including locations in South Sacramento, Folsom and Natomas. Proposals have also been submitted for locations in Citrus Heights, Arden-Arcade, Roseville, and North Highlands.” And those, like me, who love drive throughs will be happy to hear that each of these locations is hoping to have drive-thru lanes.  (It does make it so much easier for parents and grandparents so I say HOORAY for that! 😊)

Placer County Proposes Sales Tax to Ease Highway 65 Congestion and Fund Other  Infrastructure Projects

As you may remember, “In 2016, a countywide sales tax measure for transportation failed at the polls. Some local officials believed that was because voters in Placer’s less urbanized areas, like Auburn or north Lake Tahoe, were less likely to vote for improvements like Highway 65 expansion.” I REMEMBER it well! It was one of the few tax increases I have voted for. So I was happy to read in the Sacramento Business Journal that they are ready to try again to enable our area to reduce the congestion on our local freeways and streets.

Matt Click, the Executive Director of the Placer County Transportation Planning Agency, is actively pursuing local government approvals to place a sales tax measure on the ballot for transportation improvements in Placer County. This measure, if approved by voters in Roseville, Rocklin, and Lincoln, would generate an estimated $1.58 billion over 30 years through a half-cent sales tax increase limited to these cities. The funds would be used to overhaul key infrastructure such as the Interstate 80/Highway 65 interchange and expand Highway 65. Other projects include a new Placer Parkway, improvements to public works in the three cities, and an expansion of Capitol Corridor rail services. The measure aims to enhance Placer’s eligibility for state and federal grants by establishing a local funding mechanism, addressing the growing suburban development and transportation needs influenced by migration from the Bay Area. The measure requires a two-thirds majority to pass and is supported by recent polls and extensive community engagement.
