Local News for Roseville CA Area for Mother’s Day Weekend and Beyond 5-11-24

WOW What a difference a week makes. Last weekend, my granddog was enjoying munching on hail and everyone stayed home. After a couple of cool days followed by some windy days it’s now delightful and warm days! Perfect for weekend fun with Sacramento museums, Placer and Sacramento County garden walks, Quarry fun, and more! I do love Roseville weather in the spring.  🙂 And now it’s time for my latest update on local news for Roseville CA area for Mother’s Day weekend options and MORE…

Sacramento Children’s Museum

My kids all love taking their children to museums and zoos to have a fun and educational outing. And the Sacramento Children’s Museum has a fun surprise for moms this weekend.

Not only that! Do you enjoy taking your kids or grandkids to the museum but can’t afford it?  The Sacramento Children’s Museum and five other museums in Sacramento are all part of the Museums for All. Through Museums for All, those receiving food assistance (SNAP benefits) can gain free or reduced admission to more than 1,300 museums throughout the United States simply by presenting their EBT card and a photo ID. “The cost of museum admission can be a barrier for many low-income families. Participating museums provide reduced admission, ranging from free to $3.00, to visitors presenting their EBT card. This reduced rate is available during all normal operating hours to up to four individuals per EBT card.

With a year-round open door policy, Museums for All invites low-income visitors to feel welcome at cultural institutions.”  Click here for all the details including what is required, what museums may offer even more options, hours, prices, etc.  And if inflation has your budget too tight but you don’t qualify for this program, check into their annual membership. Depending on the size of the family and how often you go, that can be another great cost-cutting option that we appreciate for both museums and the zoo.

Sacramento Zoo –  Great News and Bittersweet News

AND speaking of the Sacramento Zoo – this is major local news for the Roseville CA area for Mother’s Day weekend! The Sacramento Zoo has been a part of Land Park for the past 90 years!  My grandkids LOVE that zoo! But this week, the vote was cast and the zoo is moving to Elk Grove. BUT not for at least 6 years! (Maybe even longer.)  AND it will be FOUR TIMES BIGGER!!!!  Do you think that may be why the giraffe below is grinning? 🙂 🙂 🙂

Roseville California Joys local news for mothers day weekend has smiles for the Sacramento Zoo animals

Here are some news videos with more details about it all:

AND there is much hope for something just as great for this smaller space going forward

Some of the thoughts for the future:

Shopping Joys

Rocklin is quite excited about the newest shopping center that will be coming to the Whitney Ranch area. According to Traci Newell of Gold Country Media, the Nugget Shopping Center I wrote about a while ago will finally be getting started and, per the article, “it may open in spring of 2025.”  Not quite as soon as originally hoped for, but quite exciting nonetheless. (And definitely faster than the Zoo! 🙂)

Sun City Roseville CA

I love to brag about all our great options for retirement living in Roseville CA including the initial endeavor, Sun City Roseville CA. It’s a great place to live as many of my real estate clients can attest to. And here’s an excellent article discussing Sun City Roseville. It explains some of the many reasons why it is so terrific and why the California North Chapter of the Community Associations Institute calls Sun City Roseville “The Ideal Community” in their Spring 2024 issue of The Voice. It starts out, “When considering the ideal version of a common-interest development, what comes to mind? A sense of community, funded budget with diversified income, an educated board focused on governance, staff retention, and a membership that is active and involved – just to name a few. Sun City Roseville Community Association (SCRCA) has it all!” Click here to read the whole article. It’s an interesting read in general and especially good to read if you are thinking of any of our many options for retirement living in Roseville CA.

Garden Joys

I enjoyed reading a long article by Kathy Morrison at Sacramento Digs Gardening about “Master gardeners’ Fair Oaks garden that is open this Saturday for morning strolls to view various gardens including a berry garden.  Placer and El Dorado master gardeners also welcome visitors to their sites. In the article she shared the upcoming garden talks and demonstrations for this weekend at Fair Oaks Horticulture Center and the Placer County master gardeners’ Open Loomis Demonstration Garden Day at the Loomis Library grounds. They will also have a Mother’s Day Garden tour on May 12 in Loomis.  Click here for all the details!
